This course is intended to take the principles of the Basic and Intermediate Thai Massage courses to a whole new level, with a focus on therapeutic yogic stretch routines and energy meridian work for specific disorders. Have you wondered why the routine is designed the way it is? Have you wondered which stretches relate to which sen lines? Have you wondered how to treat specific disorders through Thai massage? How to treat each client as an individual, addressing their personal physical and energetic needs? If so, this is the class for you.
Thai massage is an ancient healing modality and part of the 4-year training program of a traditional Thai physician. In this class, you will learn how a Thai therapist diagnoses and treats disorders by working on the sen. You will also learn restorative postures for specific disorders to allow you to get more out of your practice of Thai massage and treat your clients. In this class, we will take an in-depth look at sen lines and acupressure, as well as the customization of therapeutic massage routines for specific disorders.
This class will also focus on Thai medical philosophy, its evolution out of Buddhist ideas, and its application in modern Thailand by folk and Ayurvedic doctors. Thai medicine is rooted in Ayurvedic tradition, but is not interchangeable with Indian medicine. It is also quite separate from Chinese medicine. This course will explore Thai medicine for the indigenous cultural heritage it is, and will open up for participants a whole new vista onto the Thai tradition.
This course is taught by David Roylance, Director of the Thai Institute of Healing Arts and full-time Director of Touch of Asia a Therapeutic Thai Massage Center located in Sterling, VA. He has lived and worked with Thais since 2001 and has successfully treated countless clients using traditional thai massage. He introduced Thai massage to the Washington, DC area in 2003. He is invited to locations throughout the region and internationally as a guest speaker and educator of Thai massage. David has taught within the Shivagakomarpaj lineage since 2004 when, along with several Thais, he founded the Thai Institute of Healing Arts. He specializes in Thai medical theory, Thai Herbalism, Theravada Buddhism, and has a intimate understanding of Thai culture. (Also refered to as, Thai Yoga Massage, Nuat Phaen Boran, Nuat Thai, Thai Bodywork, Thai Therapy, etc.)
